SPEND SUMMER WITH US

Artist-led camps that combine
Movement • Visual Art • Music
Storytelling • Theater • and more!

Students in grades 3 through 9
Channel your kids’ energy into the arts this summer! SummerArts offers three weeks of multi–arts workshops for children entering grades 3-9. Each week, students take part in a wide variety of artistic activities with daily sessions in visual arts, music and movement/theater, led by teaching artists who are experts in their field.

In between classes kids can play outside, spend time with friends or work on a project at their own pace. Workshops for older students are more intensive and provide an opportunity for more sophisticated exploration and execution.

The SummerArts program is specially designed to provide kids with a deeply creative, artistic experience.  Themes and activities vary each week, giving students the chance to explore art in many forms and diverse media. Many campers are introduced to new artistic expressions and media that they never knew they loved!  Classes are perfect for beginners as well as more seasoned creators. Please note that the age ranges are adjusted based on the number of kids enrolled but that we take great care to place each child in an age-appropriate group that best fits that child’s needs.

Week 1: August 3–7 | Class Descriptions

Week 1: August 3–7

Poetry in Motion | Phylisha Villanueva

In this dynamic workshop, young artists will explore the power of poetry beyond the page. We’ll weave together spoken-word, expressive movement, and music, using ribbons as a visual extension of language. Participants will craft original poems and bring them to life through performance, learning how rhythm, body language, and visual elements can amplify their words. This immersive experience will encourage creativity, confidence, and collaboration, culminating in a vibrant group performance.

The Magic of Musical Theatre: Broadway Bound! | Angela DeCicco

Ever wonder what it’s like to sing in a Broadway Show? In this musical theatre intensive, campers will rehearse and refine an ensemble musical performance in a high-energy, supportive rehearsal environment. For campers newer to the stage or students with performance experience, this is an opportunity to build confidence, develop foundational skills, refine choices with greater intention, and/or experience the excitement of performing within an ensemble. Through theatre games, improvisation and rehearsal, vocal coaching, and expressive movement, students will laugh, collaborate, take creative risks, practice teamwork, and discover how individual voices come together to create something powerful and exciting.

Paper Worldmaking | Jess Blaustein

Experiment with the possibilities of paper as a sculptural medium, transforming two-dimensional surfaces into three dimensional worlds. Campers will learn a variety of paper cutting and folding techniques to create a series of origami structures from pinwheels to planets. Over the course of the week, they will totally reimagine the space around them – growing an immersive paper installation from floor to ceiling, surface to sky.

Sound Collage | Adam Hart

A stick, a bucket, a string, old bed-boards, metal spoons, recycled objects, garden hoses, and more. Using an array of found objects we will explore the world of sound by crafting instruments from random objects and learn how to use them creating a sound collage. We will explore these new sounds and how they can be used to communicate and create sounds of beauty, discord, and humor.

Week 2: August 9–14 | Class Descriptions

Week 2: August 9–14

Improv Comedy Workshop | Josh Lewis

This Comedy workshop is a fun-filled opportunity for campers to tap into their zaniest ideas as they learn the fundamentals of improv and comedy and let their imaginations run wild! The sessions will be a mixture of playful games, collaborative exercises, and imaginative sketches. It is sure to be a week of silliness and laughter, and fun!

Mastering Figure & Face Drawing | Lucia Martell

In this drawing course, students will get a step-by-step introduction to techniques in drawing the human face and figure. Guided by Lucia, you’ll begin by learning the basics in accurately drawing people, which will eventually lead to fully finished life-drawings of fellow students and self-portraits. By the end of the class, students will have a portfolio of sketches and finished drawings made with pencil, charcoal, pastels, and colored pencils! Sharpen your artistic skills, blend the realistic with the fantastic, and have fun with friends. Beginners to experienced artists are all welcome!

Writing Movies! | Caroline Gordon-Elliott

In this fun, hands-on screenwriting class, students will learn how to turn their ideas into scripts for film and TV. Through creative exercises, movie clips, and group brainstorming, they’ll explore character, dialogue, and story structure while writing scenes of their own. Whether they love movies, storytelling, or just have a great imagination, this class helps students build confidence and bring their ideas to life on the page.

Waking Up the Natural Voice | Kaya Nicole

This class will focus on developing students’ ears, intonation, and performance ability through a variety of interactive vocal activities. Each day will involve fun and engaging vocal warmups, simple ear training exercises, and music listening activities that strengthen their ability to recognize melodies, rhythms, and musical patterns. Throughout the active and participatory week, students will learn a small repertoire of songs together, and on each day we will tackle different elements of musicality such as: voice placement, projection, harmony, and rhythm. By the final day, students will feel comfortable performing the music they have learned and will share a short, informal performance celebrating the work of the week. No prior singing experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to participate!

Week 3: August 16–21 | Class Descriptions

Week 3: August 16–21

African Drumming | Kofi Donkor

Come learn the art of African Drumming. Students will learn the names of traditional drums and rhythms. Younger groups will learn the basics and explore the drum through games. Older groups will dive deeper and explore the source and origins of the music and polyrhythms. In this fun workshop kids will develop musical skills, learn African culture, and grow our communication skills all through the drum!

Fusion Dance | Anna Mayta

Fusion dance is the exploration of various dance forms and multicultural dance styles (African dance, Latin dance, Flamenco Dance, classical Indian, and modern) including the art of choreography and dance improvisation. Students will learn how all these dance forms connect with each other and will gain an understanding of their distinct approaches while appreciating their differences and similarities. They will deepen their choreography skills, and expand their dance vocabulary. Students will put together what they have learned in each genre by choreographing their own dance pieces to share with each other in the class.
