Discover the Joy of Music with the RiverArts String Ensemble!
What to Expect:
Embark on a musical journey with the RiverArts String Ensemble! This program offers a dynamic and enriching experience for both beginners and more experienced ensemble players who are rising 4th – 9th graders with at least one full year of private lessons on their string instrument. Under the guidance of instructor Hubert Chen, students will meet weekly for 12 weeks.
At the end of the semester, students will have the opportunity to gain valuable performance experience through a recital for friends and family.
Semester Information:
With two specialized sections, every participant can find their perfect fit in our carefully crafted curriculum:
Section 1 – 45-minute classes from 4:45pm-5:30pm
Ideal for budding musicians, Section 1 lays a strong foundation in ensemble playing. Embrace the fundamentals, strengthen musicianship, and learn the essentials of harmonious collaboration.
Section 2 – 60-minute classes from 5:30pm-6:30pm
For those with more experience, Section 2 delves into the artistry of ensemble playing and explores more advanced techniques. Recommended for those with prior ensemble experience.
Ensemble Fees:
- Session 1 (45-minute classes) – $660
- Session 2 (60-minute classes) – $840
- $20 Registration Fee

Instructor:
Hubert Chen, Strings Ensemble Instructor
A native New Yorker, Hubert Chen spent 8 years at Juilliard Pre-College studying violin, and holds a B.A. in music performance from SUNY Geneseo. His principal teachers were Margaret Pardee, Laura Balkin and Eric Lewis. He completed his Suzuki teacher training at The School for Strings and Kodály Methodology certification at NYU, and continued studies at the Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music, Liszt Academy in Kecskemet, Hungary. As a performer, Hubert is a versatile musician, performing with chamber music ensembles and in orchestras in venues from the Knitting Factory to Carnegie Hall. In 2010, he went with a new chamber music ensemble on a tour of Ukraine with a grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding. He is also on faculty at the Diller-Quaile School of Music and Kinhaven Music School, teaching orchestra, Suzuki group class, theory, and chamber music. Hubert is also Director of the adult programs at Diller-Quaile, leading the chamber music workshops and conducting the chamber orchestra.
