SUMMARY:Artist Conversation: Intricate Fabric of Life with Susan Richman and Rachel Weatherford Whitlow
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 57-8:30pmUpstream Gallery8 Main StreetHastings on Hudson\, NY \n \n \n \n \n \n How does anyone cope with constant flux\, with a steady stream of near emergency\, with the knowledge that what once was\, is gone? Illness\, death\, upheaval of most kinds necessitates an anchor. When we feel this way\, some of us look to nature. \n\n“The shore is an ancient world\, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive of life. Each time that I enter it\, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings\, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another\, and each with its surroundings.” Rachel Carson \n\nIn this conversation we will explore the liminal space of change and connection as we dive into the works of artists Susan Richman and Rachel Weatherford Whitlow. Each artist has a unique relationship with nature both as a source of inspiration and a medium from which to create\, seeking her anchor in the uncertainty of nature and creating images in which that “intricate fabric of life “is revealed. \n \n Purchase Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT THE ARTISTS\n\n \n \n \n \n Purchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Artist Conversation: Cross Pollination
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, March 2\, 20253–5pm \nTed & Nune Studio45 Main StreetHastings on Hudson\, NY 10706 \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for an engaging afternoon as we meet for a moderated discussion with the five artists behind Collective Art Space (CAS). \nCAS is an experiment in the benefits of pooling together artistic resources and inviting others in. Over the last decade Alison Mara\, Jen Moore Smith\, Alison Cimmet\, Marisa Gonzales Silverstein\, and Raine Gifford have enjoyed working alongside each other within their shared studio space in Dobbs Ferry. The long-term exposure to one another’s work has revealed threads of influence in each artist’s choices and inspirations\, even as each individual’s practice remains unique and intact. \n\n \nThe studio is like a living entity\, fed by and sustaining its members\, and somehow more than the sum of its parts. Cross Pollination was first explored as an exhibit at the Donald Gallery and now as an Artist Conversation with RiverArts\, we invite you to explore the creative ecosystem and why artmaking within community may be the best thing an artist can do for themselves and their work.\n \n \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS\n\nAlison Cimmet draws upon collage and painting techniques to create expressive mixed-media works full of texture and vibrant color.\n \nRaine Gifford‘s acrylic and watercolor paintings and mosaics investigate patterns of light\, color\, and negative space found within nature.\n \nMarisa Gonzales Silverstein crafts paper sculptures combining geometry and repetition in rhythmic patterns to reveal a contemplative understanding of significant data points.\n\nAlison Mara employs the use of tiny glass beads\, meditatively and painstakingly placed\, to create swirling patterns reflecting designs and textures found in nature. \nJen Moore Smith‘s practice encompasses painting and assemblage to reflect on the power of memory as it shapes landscape and natural elements. \n\n \n Purchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Flow Lines: Variations on Stillness at Sunset | Artist Conversations Series
DESCRIPTION:Flow Lines: Variations on Stillness at Sunset | Artist Conversations Series\n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday\, June 22\, 20248:00 PM – 9:30 PMQuonset Hut145 Palisade Street\, Dobbs Ferry\, NY(over the bridge\, across the tracks) \n$15 in advance\, $20 at the door \n \n Purchase Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for our Artist Conversations Series presentation of Flow Lines: Variations on Stillness at Sunset. \nFlow Lines is an interdisciplinary collaboration blending art\, visual effects\, and sound\, featuring contributions from Jon Hatch\, Bruce Robbins\, and Malcolm Macdougall. Inspired by the multidirectional flow of rivers and estuaries\, Flow Lines represents an interconnection of multiple creative disciplines. \nThis immersive experience synthesizes responses to various original source materials\, with each response building upon the last. Flow Lines invites the audience to explore these variations as a community\, while reflecting on their own individual responses. A talk-back with the artists will follow the performance. \nThe Variations: \n\nPhase 1 – Gathering and viewing sculptures by Malcolm Macdougall\, on display outside of the Quonset Hut.\nPhase 2 – Inside the Quonset Hut\, we convene with artists Bruce Robbins and Jon Hatch.\nPhase 3 – The main presentation will begin at sunset in the Hut\, featuring:\n\nOriginal electronic music by Jon Hatch\nVisual works by BC Robbins\n\n\nPhase 4 – Exploration of darkness.\nPhase 5 – Talkback after performance with artists.\n\n\nAbout the Artists \n \nJon Hatch \nJon is a versatile composer and musician who navigates between the worlds of media composition and live performance. With a passion for crafting immersive sonic experiences\, Jon specializes in composing music for film\, television\, and video games\, infusing his pieces with a unique blend of analog synthesizers\, experimental modular synths\, tape loops\, and traditional orchestral instruments. As a performing artist\, Jon captures audiences with his diverse range of performances\, from ethereal ambient soundscapes to daring and innovative sonic landscapes\, all while maintaining a captivating sense of melody. www.jonhatchmusic.com \nBruce Robbins \nBC Robbins is a multimedia artist who runs a studio in Dobbs Ferry\, NY. His creations span various art forms\, including painting\, photography\, performance\, sculpture\, and video\, delving into themes such as the passing of time and introspection. Alongside a deep appreciation for both visual and performing arts\, he has embraced puppetry as a means to intertwine his diverse passions. For over three decades\, Mr. Robbins has also been an arts educator at The Masters School. In one of his favorite activities\, he incorporates puppetry into an interdisciplinary project with fellow faculty members and students. The yearly puppet opera with the fifth-grade students enriches the learning experience through the arts. bcrobbins.com \nMalcolm MacDougall \nMalcolm endeavors for his sculptures to enter into a dialogue with the natural landscape. He concentrates on studying materials and their properties in relationship to the natural versus man-made environs. Referring to his sculptures as landscape “chapter objects\,” they allude to other material experiences\, as a chapter in a story may refer to others\, helping to unite a holistic meaning between the natural and fabricated\, real and abstract\, concrete and metaphorical. These objects are conduits to broader thoughts and experiences. As a symbol of both the natural and man-made constructs around us\, his sculptures create an awareness of industrial materials\, with those which are invented blurred against those which are natural\, imploring the viewer to appreciate the aesthetic qualities of all. Through fluid\, albeit solid\, forms\, Malcolm’s landscape-driven works allow one to discover a personal concept or image in the work. malcolmmacdougall.com \nAbout the Artist Conversation Series:   RiverArts creates opportunities to amplify the artistic voice\, bringing insight and delight to our community. Each piece represents an evolution of memories drawn from the past into the present through the Bint-Kadi’s mosaic practice. This collection is made possible by a grant received from NYSCA. \nAbout the ArtistHaifa Bint-Kadi a first Generation Palestinian-Afro-Caribbean American\, a daughter of refugees\, a mother\, and a grandmother. Haifa was trained in Italy as a classical mosaicist\, but even in her early work\, she was always drawn to the idea of public art as an index or marker of lived experience.
