SUMMARY:Virtual Salon Sundays | Edward "Bear" Miller
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, February 27 | on RiverArts’ Instagram Live\nEdward “Bear” Miller | Painter Website | Instagram \n \n \n \n \n \n Edward “Bear” Miller likes to wander out with his dog and French easel and make believe he’s Gustave Courbet on the Lower Hudson. He also loves adventuring with his wife and daughters among the high peaks of the Adirondacks. \nBorn and raised in the District of Columbia\, Bear completed high school in Millbrook\, NY\, got his B.A. in history from Reed College (’93)\, apprenticed under Pacific Northwest sculptor Philip McCracken\, taught social studies for twelve years (including five years at Colegio Menor San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador)\, and decided to focus on painting in 2009. Bear painted in oils at St. Albans School (under Sandy Larson)\, Millbrook School (under Lenny Beecher)\, at Reed College (under Michael Knutson)\, and has been mentored by Pennsylvania/Albuquerque painter Robert Stark since 2000.  \nHe earned his MFA from SUNY New Paltz in 2016 and maintains his home and studio in Tarrytown\, NY. Bear has had many solo shows\, including multiple shows in New York City\, Washington\, D.C.\, New Orleans\, the Hudson Valley\, and the Adirondacks. \n \n \n \n \n \n How to watch Instagram Live:\nOne watches a live broadcast on the Instagram app on your mobile device or on Instagram.com. RiverArts’ profile picture will appear at the top of Feed with a colorful ring around it and the word Live. Tap or click their profile picture to view the live broadcast. \n \n \n \n \n \n Salon Sundays | Virtual + in-studio\nExplore Art in the Rivertowns this Spring with RiverArts’ Salon Sundays. Salon Sundays invite visitors to tour local artists’ studios and gain an inside view of their work and inspiration. An exciting opportunity to gain insights into the creative process\, learn about techniques in a variety of media and interact with artists here in the Rivertowns community. \nEvents in February and March will be virtual\, held on Instagram Live. In April\, May and June\, we resume Salon Sundays in-person. \nSalon Sundays are inspired by the French salons founded in the 18th century as a means for new and emerging artists to gather and show their works in large numbers. Artists filled the walls\, floor to ceiling\, exhibiting anything and everything for the public and each other. Salons drew intellectuals\, writers\, poets\, sculptors\, painters\, printmakers\, supporters\, and those interested in engaging with the creative community. \n“We strongly encourage anyone attending a Salon Sunday to come with their curiosity peaked\, ask questions\, and learn who’s who in the local art community. It’s powerful to interact with artists in their space. We’re hoping this event will increase community involvement and provide a chance to meet one-on-one with area artists and experience art up close.” Jeff Dietz\, Producer\, Salon Sundays. \n \n \n \n \n \n To ensure the safety of our audience and artists\, proof of vaccination and masks are required for the in-person events. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL:Jeff Dietz\, Salon Sundays Producer\,  SalonSundays@riverarts.org  \n \n \n \n \n \n Artists who are interested in participating in Salon Sundays 2022:\n \n Register Here\n \n \n \n \n \n #SalonSundays\n#EdwardBearMiller

No payments will be accepted at the door.  \nDrink & Draw is a modern twist on the classic artistic practice of life drawing. Artists of all experience levels and backgrounds are welcome\, especially those that have always wanted to try their hand.   \nIn this non-instructional event\, we aim to create a relaxing\, social and inclusive environment for the community to come together for a fun night of drawing.  After some mingling with fellow guests\, participants will have an opportunity to capture the human body in poses of different lengths\, with breaks for refreshments in between.   \nThere’s wine\, crackers\, cheese and cookies to enjoy\, and our host curates a playlist to keep your energy flowing.  The evening lasts about 2 ½ hours\, and participants leave with a collection of their new works… and maybe some new friends too. \nRiverArts is proud to be able to provide this unique opportunity right here in our Rivertowns\, an opportunity which is often only accessible to art students or by traveling into New York City\, with a significant investment of time and tuition.  Drink & Draw offers a perfect entry-level for the amateur artist\, and we have seen beginners improve significantly as their skills develop in subsequent sessions and they draw on their experience and learn from others.   \n*Model provided. Please bring your own art supplies and arrive on time. **Must be over 18 to attend. Wine for those 21+***Until COVID-19 numbers come back down\, proof of vaccination is required for attendance and we will ask everyone but the model to be masked. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL: info@riverarts.org \n#DrinkAndDraw \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Fill out my Wufoo form!

SUMMARY:Artist Conversation with Malcolm D. MacDougall III
DESCRIPTION:Artist Conversation | Malcolm D. MacDougall III\n \n Register for Event\n \n \n \n \n \n Sunday\, October 17thRiver Front Hangar west of 145 Palisade Street 3:00-4:30 pmIn-person: $15 \nIn our ongoing effort to connect local artists with art lovers we are proud to present our next RiverArts Artist Conversation with sculptor\, Malcolm D. MacDougall III live and in-person at his studio on the Dobbs Ferry waterfront on Sunday October 17th at 3pm.  \n“We are thrilled to have another wonderful opportunity to gather this great community of art appreciators together to learn about this incredible local artist’s perspectives and process\,” said Artist Conversation Producer\, Marie-Louise Miller.  \nMacDougall’s work transcends the physical. Led by the desire to capture the potential for movement in the objects around us and influenced by the world as seen through the lens of the microscope\, Macdougall creates sculpture which leads the imagination to touch the sublime.  \nMacdougall has seen two large scale works on display in NY City: “Conflicts of Growth” at Spring & Varrick in 2013 and “Microscopic Landscape” at Union Square Park in 2012. Said of his 2013 piece\, Microscopic Landscape\, It “is about potential energy and pushing a stagnant object as close to perceived movement as possible.”   \n“The sculpture serves as a snapshot of the ongoing activity in the neighborhood; it is a static object that maintains the constant anticipation of movement\, just as the grounds of Union Square provide the framework for the energetic flow of people and commerce.”  City Atlas: New York \n\nLocally\, his sculptures\, “Outcrops of Bacterial Growth” and “Eternal Conflicts of Growth” were displayed in Wagner Park and Kinally Cove of Hastings-on-Hudson respectively.   \n“We are inviting a limited audience to come to Malcolm’s studio and participate in a wide-ranging conversation with the artist about the motivation and inspiration for choosing materials\, his process for transforming objects into works of art\, and what he looks forward to at this stage of his creative life\,” says RiverArts’ Artistic Director\, Kate Ashby. To support the safe appreciation of art\, the live audience will be limited to 40.  We will also be recording this event and will offer this after the fact for $5.    \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL: info@riverarts.org \n \n Register for Event
