Week 1: July 29 – August 2 

Mosaics | Haifa Bint-Kadi

Create captivating and colorful artwork in this Mosaics camp! Participants will have great fun as they use a variety of found objects and ceramics to create brand new pieces of art from broken and discarded items. Younger groups will create a fantasy mosaic house and older groups will design mosaic botanicals using stained glass.

Tiny Worlds Sculptures | Isabel Oliveras

This fun camp is all about miniatures!  Over the week, campers will create a tiny world sculpture from a wide array of fun materials. After deciding on their theme and layout, campers will begin constructing their own worlds.  Worlds can be mystical or realistic- all incorporating tiny buildings, furniture, food, people, and nature. From a tiny town to a mystical forest, we’ll end the week with an installation of everyone’s magical worlds.

African Drumming | Kofi Donkor

Come learn the art of African Drumming.  Students will learn the names of traditional drums and rhythms.  Younger groups will learn the basics and explore the drum through games.  Older groups will dive deeper and explore the source and origins of the music and polyrhythms.  In this fun camp kids will develop musical skills, learn African culture and grow our communication skills all through the drum! 

Fractured Fairy Tales | Marie-Louise Miller

Reclaim tales of witches and wolves, kids and rotten parents, magic and monsters with your own voice! This week, we will read a few fairy tales, spend a day pulling them apart and asking questions like:  What if Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother were really a witch? What if the Giant chasing Jack is really just sad? What if Cinderella is a boy? And then, we’ll spin our own original tales. Storytelling can be a solo act or students can work in small groups.  Students choose which characters to follow, how the story evolves, and who the hero will be.  

Week 2: August 5 – 9 

Paper Forms | Jess Blaustein 

Experiment with the possibilities of paper as a sculptural medium, transforming two-dimensional surfaces into three dimensions. Campers will learn a variety of paper cutting and folding techniques to create a series of small and large structures from pinwheels to pop-ups. Over the course of the week, they will totally reimagine the space around them – filling the ceiling, walls, and floors with fantastical paper forms. 

Ignite Your Imagination: Poetry Writing Workshop | Phylisha Villanueva 

Dive into this captivating poetry workshop that will focus on ekphrastic writing- poetry inspired by works of art! Explore hidden narratives, translate emotions into evocative language, and unleash your creativity through unexpected pairings of art and verse. As we examine works of art, we’ll explore them through written themes such as unexpected pairings, sensory explosions, and social commentary. 

Weaving on Looms both Large and Small | Doug Coe 

Come learn the art of weaving through a project all your own on a small wooden loom! Students will weave small pictures, either abstract or realistic, using a wide variety of colored and textured yarn. Additionally, Doug will bring one his larger looms that all campers will have an opportunity to weave upon, and contribute to, a larger class project. Basic skills such as setting up a warp and manipulating threads in tapestry techniques will be covered. 

Contemporary Dance and Improvisation | Nicole Lemelin 

This fun movement class will introduce students to the fun world of contemporary dance! Students will begin to develop technical skills and artistic expression through floor and standing exercises, traveling movements, phrase-work and musicality. We will incorporate improvisation exercises that cultivate each dancer’s unique approach to choreography and movement. This will be done through structured play using levels, word association, question/answer and working off of a partner. By the end of the week each student will have the chance to develop a piece of their own choreography that will be included in the final showcase.

Week 3: August 12 – August 16 

Let’s Make a Play! | Josh Lewis 

The Let’s Make a Play workshop gives kids the opportunity to create and perform their own play! Through fun, lively acting and playwriting exercises (and lots of silly games!), they work as an ensemble to develop the characters, setting, and plot for an original play that they present in a workshop performance at the end of the program.

Graffiti Art | Lance Johnson

One of our most popular camps is back!  Here kids will explore all elements of graffiti art!  Campers will use spray paint, stencils, glue, brushes, collage and more to create unique graffiti inspired artwork.  Campers will learn new techniques and work to tune into their own creative spirit- connecting with what inspires and motivates them.  After working on individual pieces, the week will end with a large scale, collaborative spray-painted mural. 

Printmaking Explorations | Chelsea Michaelis

In this workshop, we will explore several techniques of printmaking- including linocut, monoprint, collagraphs, and cyanotypes. Campers will create their own stencils, and linocut stamps, as well as incorporating objects from nature into these different printmaking processes. We’ll learn how to transfer an image onto linocut material to carve and then print and blend different materials to create unique printed pieces. 

Stories and Songs from Around the World (younger groups) | Anne Boccoto

In this class students are invited to experience traditional songs and tales from around the world told through the magic of everyday objects. A bracelet becomes a princess; a spoon, a terrible monster; as pencils, paper clips and earrings join the cast of magical creatures from another land. This simple storytelling technique leaves room for the imagination and invites young minds to participate, filling in the wide-open spaces with their own creativity and sense of wonder.  

We will sing and dance to the music of our neighbors from all corners of the Earth, learning melodies, rhythms and words in many different languages, each story and song a window into the life of people past and present, near and far. 

Songwriting (older groups) | Anne Boccoto 

In this weeklong class, students will be able to experience the songwriting process from start to finish. Beginning with an open brainstorm of theme ideas, the class will work together to create characters, backstories, lines, working all the way to writing lyrics, choosing a genre, and crafting the melody, rhythm and harmony for the final song. All in a fun and interactive environment that lets the students drive the direction of their creation together. 

Week 4: August 19 – August 23 

Creative Sounds | Adam Hart 

In this multimedia music and art camp, students will begin by creating their own instruments!  They’ll use found objects and a variety of art supplies to create instruments.  Then they’ll put them to use!  Mixing their new instruments and voices, to create a sound collage together as a group. 

Cartooning | Joe Tomasini

Inspired by modern graffiti artists such as Kaws and Basquiat.  Students will design cartoon characters and turn them into dynamic oversized images that can be used as wall art, toy design and murals.  Projects will focus on free-flowing, animated forms, using bold lines and even bolder colors.  Type and the written word will also be incorporated in each work of art.   Large final pieces will help young artists break the box and not be afraid to let their art stand out. 

World Stories Alive! | Rachael Harrington

In this program, young storytellers explore and discover the artform of traditional storytelling, and learn how to bring a folktale to life from page to performance. We play storytelling and drama games to develop fully rounded characters and understand how to confidently communicate a narrative as a solo storyteller connecting directly with an audience. All week we’ll learn different techniques for preparing a story for performance, and gain confidence in weaving elements of audience participation and call and response into our tellings. By the end of the week, each young storyteller will have received a traditional world culture folktale, playfully explored the story through creative exercises, prepared the story, and will be ready tell the tale to listeners. 

Beyond the Surface: Sculpted Self Portraits | Rea Silvia Feriozzi

Discover the art of self-expression through our self portrait sculpting class. Using clay and mixed media, learn the techniques to create a personal and artistic representation of yourself. During class students will explore the process of capturing their unique features with depth and nuance. This class provides a space for exploration, self-discovery and creativity.
