The exhibitions curated by Kara, a trained art historian, suggest that you can’t be quite sure what to expect – and that you will be glad you came. NYTimes reporter Susan Hodara described Kara as “A curator who goes with her gut,” when writing about “Cause & Affection.” (New York Times, August 13, 2010) In that article, artist Scott Goodman describes Kara as a “process-based curator [who works] much in the way many artists work — she sees something, loves it, and throws it in the mix.” The 13 artists of “Cause & Affection” were featured in a raw former lift truck warehouse in Croton Falls in the venerable tradition of early shows in SoHo and TriBeCa. Other shows have included “Young Blooded” and “Skies: Unlimited” at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill NY. In the mix at “For the Love of Art” at the Hat Factory in Peekskill, were works by both contemporary artists and art icons Warhol, Picasso, and Rembrandt.
Kara’s capacity in arts management developed in college when she founded and directed the first student-run gallery at SUNY Purchase, Y.A.H! (Your Art Here!), and carried forward in her work as a gallery manager and curator. She is currently earning her Master’s in childhood education at Hunter College, and maintains a love of softball and wilderness.
“Works of art, if you can move inside them, open up worlds of possibility.” – Maxine Greene
