Cathleen Mooney | President
Since becoming president of RiverArts in July 2013, Cathleen Mooney leads a strong board that has produced a new strategic plan and reached new benchmarks for fundraising and programs. She brings over three decades of music education and administrative experience at the Carmel Central School District to her service first as a piano instructor in the music program, and subsequently in leading the board to record achievement. Many summer vacations of international travel with her family developed her interest in multicultural arts and included a year in Buenos Aires where she volunteered as a director of cultural events for a university women’s club. After moving to the Rivertowns, she consulted as a corporate relocation specialist helping families moving to the US settle into their new communities.
A Magna cum Laude graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Cathleen earned the same honors in her Masters in Music Education from Western Connecticut State College. She has volunteered for the American Heart Association, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, the Putnam Hospital Fair, and as a reading tutor. She is a certified NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) piano adjudicator.
As a lifelong arts educator, Cat wrote, directed and conducted countless school productions in the public schools, and led programs in Gifted and Talented in the Arts, Odyssey of the Mind, and Destination Imagination. She served as a professional mentor and sponsor to new teachers, and has a long history of team building and generous community service. She is currently a docent at the Hudson River Museum and expends a little more of that trademark indefatigable energy enjoying tennis, skiing, travel, and playing with her four granddaughters.
